“It is now time to throw the practice of captivity and isolation on Abdullah Öcalan to the waste bin of history. On this basis, his freedom is associated strongly with the demands of the Kurdish people,” writes Seydi Firat for Yeni Yaşam.
The 2022 Newroz has started both globally and in local communities. Political parties and non-governmental organizations released declarations for the Newroz; the aims, targets and expectations have been manifested.
Now is the time to get the mass movement going towards the Newroz torch, to participate in this movement from each house, each street, and to prepare for this march with each person.
It is time to participate in this start with passion and aspiration. Dynamism against inaction, revival against being intimidated, resistance against oppression, and enlightenment against dark are the main spirit of these 50 years of history. Now is the time to act with that spirit.
This history is woven with memories of so many heroes, their sacrifices and their pains. A people’s passion for freedom, their prayer for freedom; Newroz, a history woven with pains, found upon freedom, without any excuses.
The people have woven the Newroz tradition with their pains, their suffering, their struggle and their cries. And they are walking to the future with the inspiration from this tradition, this history.
The attitude of the authoritarian, oppressive regimes towards Newroz, towards the people in Newroz, was always based on destruction and injustice. Their policies today are similar, as in the past. The concept to leave Kurdish people breathless is still valid and in the most brutal way.
The Newroz perspective, on the other hand, is based on rejecting violations of rights and injustices; on exterminating the concepts of occupation and massacre.
The call for and the responsibility about stopping the oppression, the injustice and the destruction is the character of Newroz in its history. And mostly in the last 50 years of history. The struggle in the last 50 years is the highest level of expression of such a character.
Showing respect for such a history, dedicating the freedom dynamism of these 50 years in this Newroz to the freedom of its leader is therefore only natural. This is necessary for respect for a historical cause, for the self-respect of a people.
The captivity and the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan is injustice towards a people. It is a sign of disrespect. The fascist mentality is doing this in order to please those in the same mindset and to strengthen the hostility towards the Kurdish people.
It is now time to throw the practice of captivity and isolation on Abdullah Öcalan to the waste bin of history. On this basis, his freedom is associated strongly with the demands of the Kurdish people and those of the progressive and democratic people of the world and the human rights defenders.
We should march to the meeting areas with this responsibility to open the way for freedom. Every sign shows that this will be a magnificent march.
