NATO officials and the international community should react to Wednesday’s Turkish drone strike that killed a father and small child in Iraq’s Sinjar region, Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) said in a written statement.
On 15 June a Turkish drone fired two missiles onto the People’s Assembly building in Sinjar’s Sinun district. The father and son were caught under the rubble when the shop building next door was also hit and collapsed.
Silence from NATO and the international community allows Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to attack Kurdish people more confidently, KNK said.
“Turkey’s attacks are a continuation of Islamic State (ISIS) attacks, geared towards genocide,” the KNK said, accusing Turkey of targeting the region of Sinjar for years following the 2014 ISIS attacks in the ancient Yazidi homeland.
KNK called for humanitarian aid and for defence and support from the international community for the people of Sinjar and Kurdistan.
