The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) has published its message for Newroz, emphasising the importance of Newroz and its importance for Kurds going back nearly 3,000 years, reports Hawar News Agency.
“Newroz means freedom, justice, equality, and the ending of oppression. Other communities in the region have been sharing these values and the Newroz Festival (Bairam) with Kurds for hundreds of years”, said the MSD.
“Based on these values, Syriacs, Armenians, Turkmens, Arabs, Kurds, Muslims, Christians and Yazidis have been organising since the beginning of 2014, forming the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria [AANES] and governing themselves”.
The MSD described the AANES as the solution to the Syrian crisis and noted that they have been defending their region against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and also Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s offensive politics since the beginning of the crisis in Syria.
The MSD hoped that Newroz would bring peace to Syria and for this year to be the year of freedom for all political prisoners.
“We, as members of the Syrian Democratic Council, celebrate the Newroz of the people of Syria, the peoples of the region and the whole world. We reiterate once again that to end the conflict in the region, the Turkish occupation must end and the gangs must leave Syria. We emphasise once again that the solution to the Syrian crisis will be within the framework of the United Nations (UN) resolution 2254 and that a Democratic Constitution is necessary for this”.
