Turkey has lifted it’s veto on Sweden and Finland joining NATO. In return, Sweden and Finland have agreed to tighten anti-terrorism legislation and to lift arms embargoes on Turkey. The Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Finland and Sweden signed a trilateral memorandum on the first day of the NATO summit held in Madrid.
Cooperation on Turkey’s anti-terrorism demands relate to cracking down on Syrian Kurdish groups operating in the Nordic countries. Sweden and Finland have agreed to address Turkey’s extradition requests for Kurds.
In other news, The International Trade Union Confederation’s global rights index this year has placed Turkey amongst the 10 worst countries for workers in the world.
A lawyer was subjected to violence at a gendarmerie headquarters in Turkey’s Kurdish-majority city of Yüksekova on Sunday.
