Debates continue surrounding a possible conflict between Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) after the explosion that killed 5 peshmerga travelling in a convoy in the Metina region of the Medya Defence Zones.
KDP officials blamed the PKK for the attack but the People’s Defense Unit’s (HPG) press office stated that their forces had not carried out the attack and called for an inquiry by an independent body.
In the aftermath of these developments a joint committee has now been formed, including parliamentarians from Iraq and the Federal Region of Kurdistan. The committee will conduct investigations in the region.
The political stance of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) regarding the tension in the region has also been clarified.
On 8th of June the Kurdistan Patriotic Union (PUK) Co-chair Lahor Şêx Cengi held a meeting with the Peshmerga General Command in Qelaçulan and spoke about the latest developments.
Evaluating the latest developments in Iraqi (Bashuri) Kurdistan at the meeting, Şêx Cengî said that the enemies of Kurds are trying to start a fratricidal war between the Kurds.
Şêx Cengi underlined that under no circumstances they will take part in a fratricidal war between the Kurds.
