Amid the ongoing attacks by the Turkish army with the support of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), women activists from the KRI’s Sulaymaniyah (Silêmanî), members of the Assembly of Mothers of Peace in Turkey’s Batman (Elîh), and the Free Women Movement (TJA) in Diyarbakır (Amed) have condemned these aggressions and called on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to break its silence, Mezopotamya News Agency reported on 17 and 18 July.
The persistence of the Turkish state’s occupational attacks, which violate the sovereignty of both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, has led to significant human and financial losses for Kurdish citizens and caused extensive environmental destruction.
Protesting these widespread invasions, Kurdish women activists have condemned the Turkish army’s actions and accused Kurdish political parties, particularly the KDP, of collaborating with the Turkish state. Activists in Sulaymaniyah asserted that the Turkish state could not sustain its assaults without the cooperation of certain Kurdish factions.
Since the onset of the Turkish army’s attacks on Iraqi Kurdistan, women, civil activists, journalists, and academicians have steadfastly condemned these assaults. However, the KRG’s close ties, particularly those of the Barzani family, with the Turkish government have hindered any practical measures to oppose Turkey’s occupation.
