Kurdish rap music group BTN have released a new song to mark International Mother Language Day, according to the Mesopotamia Agency
Singing in the Kurmancî and Kirmanckî dialects of the Kurdish language, the group exhibit the importance of using their mother language. The group has said that the song was released to contribute to the maintainance and improvement of the Kurdish language, in the face of strong opposition.
“International Mother Language Day has just begun to be celebrated”, said the group. “For Kurds the meaning of this day is profound, because the Kurdish language is still facing several obstacles. By releasing this song we aimed to contribute to the struggle to preserve and protect Kurdish from assimilation policies. As rappers, we strive to reach mass audiences. We will continue to create Kurdish rap music for new generations”.
The song is written and composed by BTN, with an arrangement by Harun Eyüp Polat. Uğur Sermiyan also contributed to the song.
