In a written statement released on Friday, the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) said: “After midnight last night, Israel carried out wide-scale aerial attacks against Iran. Unfortunately, this attack has further deepened the war that intensified on 7 October 2023—a war that has caused destruction and great suffering, harming peoples in every respect.”
The KCK stated that wars launched by states in pursuit of power and hegemony have never provided solutions and have instead inflicted major harm on societies. It said that the past century of Middle Eastern history, marked by uninterrupted warfare, made this clear.
“We regard this war, which causes losses and destruction and offers nothing but suffering to the peoples, as wrong and we condemn it,” the statement read. “It must now be understood by all that war does not provide a solution, and war policies must be abandoned.”
The KCK reaffirmed its view that political and social problems in the region must be addressed through democratic politics, dialogue and negotiation. It referred to the position of Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned Kurdish leader, whose proposals for democratic politics and negotiation were presented as a viable path forward.
“As a movement, we act with awareness of this historical truth,” the KCK said. “We believe that issues must be resolved through democratic politics and democratic negotiation, as proposed by Leader Apo. We call on everyone to act on this basis and seek resolution not through war, but through democratic methods.”
The KCK added that peace in the Middle East could only be achieved through the concepts of democratic modernity and the democratic nation, arguing that the nation-state model rooted in capitalist modernity had failed to enable peaceful coexistence among the region’s peoples, cultures and beliefs.
The KCK stated that Öcalan had made significant efforts to resolve the region’s political deadlock, referring to his “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” issued on 27 February 2025 as a framework for addressing the ongoing crisis.
“The deepening war and the harm it inflicts on peoples have once again underlined the importance of this historic call,” the statement continued. “On the basis of this historical reality, we call on all peoples, women, and democratic socialist forces to understand more deeply the historic call of Leader Apo, to strengthen their organisations and unity, and to work towards a democratic solution.”
