DBP Co-chair Keskin Bayındır, shared his views with Mesopotamia Agency (MA) regarding the Kobanê investigation launched against their party members and the isolation imposed on PKK leader Öcalan.
“Abdullah Öcalan clearly represents leadership for the Kurdish, Turkish and Middle Eastern peoples in the search to find a solution to the Kurdish question and for the peace,” he said.
The Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) concluded their campaign entitled “We organise ourselves against fascism” on 13 April.
Bayındır said that they had been in direct contact with the general public through this campaign to expose the hostile policies of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) – Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) alliance for the last 6 years against the Kurdish people.
”It is important to lift the isolation on Abdullah Öcalan and to explain Öcalan’s ideas to the general public,” Bayındır said. Therefore the campaign gave them a chance to meet ordinary people, one to one, and exchange thoughts on the solution alternatives amid the increasing pressure of the government.
‘Annihilation plan’
Bayındır said the so called ‘Kobanê investigation’, which was launched against their party members and was also shown as a the grounds for the closure of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), is a “conspiracy”.
“This investigation was part of the annihilation plan of the government, which seeks to destroy democratic Kurdish politics,” Bayındır said.
Recalling the dialogue process in which Öcalan took part in as an important actor, Bayındır said, ”One side of this process was Mr. Öcalan and the Turkish state was the other. HDP was the third party of this process with a more facilitating role. The HDP’s role was historical. After the “annihilation plan” decision was taken in 2014, the AKP turned the peace and negotiation process into a tool for a more comprehensive war.”
‘Erdoğan should be prosecuted’
Underlining that the dialogue process was disrupted by the AKP government, Bayındır emphasized that the isolation imposed on Öcalan after this process was also aggravated.
“The AKP insisted on the deadlock of the Kurdish Question after 2015,” Bayındır said. ”AKP insisted on war. Turkey targeted the people and the democratic forces for the start of a comprehensive war. It took a hardened position and forget about any process between the state and the Kurdish people. For this, the AKP worked together with the deep structures of the state.”
“All actors in the solution process were sought with an intention to be convicted. Attempts to close the HDP is the outcome of this policy.”
AKP was also a part of the dialogue process, Bayındır moted. ”If the HDP is prosecuted, Erdoğan and his cabinet should also be prosecuted. In addition, Erdoğan should be prosecuted for war crimes. Despite all the insistence, the AKP decided to end any negotiations and began to wage war again,” Bayındır said.
Öcalan’s ‘Imralı stance’
Bayındır defined ‘Öcalan’s Imralı stance as a hopeful source to “give significant momentum to the quest for a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue. This is a stance which has an important role that paves the way for peace as well for the democratic opposition and social democracy in Turkey.”
“Imralı’s stance is a stance for peace. The only actor in the solution of the Kurdish issue is Mr. Öcalan,” Bayındır said.
“Abdullah Öcalan clearly represents leadership for the Kurdish, Turkish and Middle Eastern peoples in the search to find a solution to the Kurdish question and for the peace.”
”This was taken as a danger for the AKP government, which became increasingly authoritarian, but in reality that only weakened its power,” Bayındır added. “This situation was quickly noticed by the AKP. Hence, the AKP, which became increasingly anxious, embarked on different strategy in order to prevent Mr. Öcalan’s ideas from reaching the society. They resorted to this present policy of total isolation.”
Society is aware of how vital Mr. Öcalan’s ideas are, according to Bayındır. ”Kurdish people continue their own struggle. The main point is that this struggle should be united with other democracy forces in the country.”
