As the operations launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrillas in Iraqi Kurdistan continue, locals are organising a human shield against Turkey’s operations in the region.
Hundreds of people are marching through the region, but were recently blockaded by the Kurdistan Democratic Party Asayish.
The people are marching from Koyê to the Medya Defence Zones as part of the “Come to the Freedom War” campaign launched by the Patriotic Youth Movement and the Young Women’s Movement on 28 May.
However, in Degele, they were stopped at the security checkpoint belonging to the KDP. They chanted slogans condemning Turkey for the attacks.
They also vowed to continue their march until they reach the Behdinan region, which is the target of the attacks.
