The People’s Defence Centre (HSM) announced that the two militants who carried out the bomb attack on the Turkish Interior Ministry in Ankara on Sunday were Özkan Şahin (nom de guerre Rojhat Zîlan) and Hasan Oğuz (nom de guerre Erdal Şahin), both members of the “Immortal Battalion”.
Şahin was from the eastern province of Van (Wan), while Oğuz was from the southern city of Mersin, Fırat News Agency reported citing the HSM statement.
Around the same time as the announcement, the Şahin family discovered that their son’s body had already been moved to Mersin without their consent, while they were in the forensic institute in capital Ankara to provide DNA samples for identity verification.
Before the parents could return, Şahin was buried in Mersin. The funeral took place on Monday under heavy police presence, including armoured vehicles. Only nine membes of the extended family were allowed to attend.
