HDP Co-Chair Mithat Sancar presented a press statement before the courthouse in Ankara. Before the press statement was issued, the police intervened with the journalists who had attended to report on the statement.
The reporters were not allowed to use their cameras to report the HDP Co-Chair’s statement. Consequently, they had to record the statement via their mobile phones, Mesopotamia Agency reports.
Two Mesopotamia Agency reporters were also physically attacked by the police as they tried to record the statement.
Reacting to the police pressure on journalists Sancar said: “They try to silence us. We wanted to make a statement before the trial began, but here they build a wall made of flesh between us and the press. We will reveal that this case is a political plot. This is a case to destroy the hope for freedom and peace”.
Sancar defined the HDP’s mission as one aimed to “resist for democracy, peace, freedom and truth”. Sancar emphasized that the HDP’s resistance will continue during the Kobani case as well.
“This is a political revenge case. This case is the product of the hurt of a government that has not been able to accept the defeat of ISIS (the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq) in Kobani”, Sancar said. “This case is a product of the defeat of the government by the HDP. We will overcome the Kobani revenge case altogether”. The HDP delegation subsequently entered the courtroom to attend the Kobani case trial.
