The People’s Democratic Party (HDP) held a caucus on 10-11 October in İstanbul. The meeting was dedicated to all the people who lost their lives in the 10 October 2015 Ankara Massacre.
The final declaration statement of the caucus confirms that the HDP is committed to making an extraordinary effort to build an anti-fascist block against the regime in Turkey.
The final declaration states: “We will continue to struggle and build an anti-fascist line of resistance”. The AKP-MHP regime was accused of leading the country and the region from one disaster to another.
It was also stated that government’s policies in the Kurdish region are getting more violent day by day: “Because of them, torture is a daily routine in the Kurdish geography now, and in recent days, we have witnessed rapes, mass lynch attacks on Kurdish workers and the brutality of an incident when villagers were thrown from a helicopter”.
During the caucus, there were debates that analysed the nature of the world capitalist system. The importance and value of the struggle of people was also recognised: “The world capitalist system is experiencing a terrible crisis; it is at an impasse in history. The system tries to overcome every crisis by persecuting people, by pillaging nature and life, by poisoning the areas of freedom, and by slaughtering the truth. Today, this system imposes war, death, tears, and poverty on the people. On the other hand, the struggle for democracy and freedom and a new ideal of life must be raised by peoples all over the world. This is the only salvation and the only hope for humanity”.
Isolation conditions of Öcalan criticized
The prison isolation conditions imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan were also subject to criticism: “The system that is implemented on the island of İmralı recently has become a direct expression of the militarist policy nourished by war. In this sense, isolation has now turned into a shackle on the whole of society and the forces of democracy. Therefore, to break the isolation of İmralı is the same as demanding peace and defending peace. This is a responsibility for all revolutionary democratic forces”.
Future Plans
The future plans of the party were announced in the HDP’s final declaration: “Our goal is to respond to attacks by fortifying our existence wherever our people are. Our party does not see the political struggle as just elections. We will use the street and all other legitimate-democratic areas of struggle to the maximum. We will not leave the arenas of struggle despite all the pressures and obstacles placed against us”.
