Gülazer Akın, who has been in Kayseri Women’s Closed Prison for 28 years, sent a letter to Yeni Özgür Politika. Medya News publishes the translation of Gülazer Akın’s letter.
”We are 11 people and we are supposedly in quarantine. We were quarantined because we went to the hospital. We are officially stuck in a small prison room. We couldn’t get out of here. A week passes, someone is transferred to the hospital. They bring her/him away, our quarantine days have to start all over again. No TV, no newspaper. We spend our time just with each other.”
”I play like a lullaby”
”We spend our time chatting, with discussions, social activities. We play games such as ‘taboo’, ‘who would I be’ , ‘quizzes’, then we do musical plays. Every night I put my friends to sleep by playing kaval (flute). I play old songs, softly and long. So that no one can feel the difficulty of the prison and rest in peace. I play to them like a lullaby.”
”I definitely find a way”
”When I hear them breathing like they are all asleep, I stop playing the flute. We are playing chess. Everyone has learnt. It is a nice game of chess. You have to learn chess. It is very useful. I say to myself when I am stuck and having difficulty in playing that there is always a way and an exit to the difficulty when you focus and think hard. And I definitely always find a way “
