Frankfurt is preparing to host the 32nd International Kurdish Culture Festival on 21 September 2024, an event expected to have a significant cultural and political impact. KON-MED, the umbrella organisation of Kurds in Germany, has called for strong participation in this year’s festival, emphasising the importance of resisting the repression of Kurdish culture by Turkey’s ruling Erdoğan regime.
The festival will feature a wide range of activities, including performances, exhibitions and speeches by international and Kurdish politicians. It aims to highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the Kurdish community, particularly in light of the recent escalation by the Erdoğan regime, which has been accused of intensifying attacks on Kurdish culture, including efforts to suppress Kurdish language, music and national values.
Participants can look forward to a range of cultural performances, including traditional Kurdish music and dance, models of Kurdish villages and architecture, and special activities for children. The event will also feature speeches condemning genocide, occupation and isolation policies, reflecting its role as a space for both celebration and advocacy.
The 31st International Kurdish Culture Festival, held last year in Frankfurt, was a landmark event with tens of thousands of participants from all over Europe. After five years in the Netherlands, the festival’s return to Germany was met with great enthusiasm. Prominent figures, including politicians and cultural activists, voiced their support for the Kurdish cause, making the festival a significant occasion for the Kurdish community in Europe.
This year’s festival promises to continue this tradition, offering a vibrant celebration of Kurdish heritage while addressing critical issues facing the community. For those planning to attend, KON-MED has provided details of bus departures and locations to ensure a smooth journey to the event.
