Forest fires erupted in Mount Gabar, beside the town of Dergul in Şırnak (Şirnex) province in Turkey.
The fires could not be extinguished due to the ‘ongoing operations’ in the region by the Turkish armed forces. It has been reported that there has been no response by the relevant authorities to put out the fires.
Devastating forest fires in the Cudi, Gabar and Besta regions of Şırnak have been continuing for over three months. Thousands of trees and extensive wildlife habitats have been destroyed in the region and people who live there have been criticising the general public for being silent about these fires in the Kurdistan mountains.
