Five fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) lost their lives during an operation against ISIS activities in the Deir Ezzor (Dêrezor) region in North and East Syria on Sunday, the press centre of the SDF announced on Wednesday.
“As we console ourselves, and all the families of our martyrs, we are at the same time more determined to achieve their noble goals for which they sacrificed their lives, to preserve the security of our regions,” said the SDF in their statement.
The operation that resulted in the SDF fighters’ deaths was launched on Sunday in response to a surge in activities orchestrated by the Islamic State (ISIS) cells. These activities encompassed a range of illicit endeavours, including smuggling operations, infringement upon citizens’ rights, and the erosion of public security in the affected areas. With mounting concerns and deteriorating conditions, the community leaders implored the SDF to take swift action to restore stability and peace to the region.
According to an SDF press statement released on Sunday, the operation is supported by the Global Coalition Forces against ISIS. It aims to build upon previous operations in the Al-Jazeera (Cizîrê) and Raqqa (Reqa) areas.
As the “Operation Security Reinforcement” to cleanse the Deir Ezzor countryside continues, the SDF vows to relentlessly pursue the ISIS militants and criminal elements responsible for disturbing the peace and security of the region.
