The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched a new operation, dubbed “Operation Security Reinforcement,” against ISIS activities in the Deir Ezzor (Dêrezor) region on Sunday.
According to an SDF press statement released on Sunday, the operation is supported by the International Coalition Forces. It aims to build upon previous operations in the Al-Jazeera (Cizîrê) and Raqqa (Reqa) areas. The primary objectives include dismantling ISIS cells, preventing potential attacks, and pursuing criminals who have wronged the civilian population.
The SDF announced that the operation will continue until its objectives are met. Military forces participating in the operation will collaborate with the civil administration and local leaders to ensure security and peace in the region.
In support of the operation, security forces have imposed a curfew in the cities of Hasakah (Hesekê), Hole and Shaddadi. The curfew will remain in effect until the operation concludes. Military sources revealed that information on ISIS activities has been obtained from prisons.
According to Farhad Shami, the SDF press spokesman, the operation has so far resulted in the capture of five ISIS members and eight drug traffickers, and the deaths of three suspects who refused to surrender. Shami stated that the operation is proceeding as planned. “While the operation continues to expand, we have made significant captures,” Shami added.
