The fifth conference of the Democratic Society Academy was held on 26 February with the slogan “Towards the construction of a democratic nation through free philosophy and science”, reports Hawar News.
The Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) co-chair Xerib Hiso spoke first during the conference, which was held at the legislative council building in Amûdê district of Qamishli (Qamishlo) and attracted 90 delegates. During the conference, a cinevision showing the education activities of the Democratic Society Academy in North and East Syria was also shown, and later the two-year activity report of the Academy was read by members of the Democratic Society Education Al Hasakah (Hesekê) Academy Ayşe Eli, Enes Ewad and Gulbihar Umer.
Suggestions and evaluations were offered by the participants for the two-year planning of the Academy and members discussed opening more education institutions in mostly Arab-populated regions and improving methods for classes.
The number of classes for the tribes should be increased, all institutions should emphasise education in mother languages and the instructors should improve their educational and intellectual skills, the participants stated.
The establishment of a new school in the eastern line of the Deir Ez-Zor and an increase in the number of ecology and Middle East classes were also among the suggestions given during the conference. At the same time Academy members vowed to work harder against corruption in the institutions.
Following the suggestions of the participants and members of the council, Aram Koçber, a member of the Executive Board of the Research Department, read the working charter in the academies of North and East Syria. Suggestions relating to changing the articles of the laws were heard. The new articles were read and evaluated, and the new regulation was approved.
