The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) faces serious allegations of complicity in Turkish drone strikes that killed two Kurdish journalists, with the father of Hêro Bahadîn accusing the party of enabling attacks on their own people.
On Friday, a Turkish drone strike in the Said Sadiq district of Sulaymaniyah (Silêmanî) in Iraqi Kurdistan resulted in the deaths of two Kurdish journalists, Gülistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn, and left six others injured. The attack, which targeted media professionals, has sparked significant outrage, particularly from the families of the victims.
Bahadîn Abdullah, the father of slain journalist Bahadîn, expressed his deep anger and frustration towards both Turkey and the KDP. In his statement, Abdullah accused the KDP of complicity in the attack, asserting that “Turkey is killing our children with our own money and oil”. He condemned the KDP-affiliated counter-terrorism service for distorting the facts surrounding the attack, describing it as a “disgraceful act”.
Abdullah further criticised the international community, including the United Nations and human rights organisations, for their failure to condemn the ongoing attacks against the Kurdish people. “These attacks have crossed all boundaries. Many people, like my daughter, have been killed,” he said, calling for a stronger international response to the violence.
