Child raped by members of police and army in Batman, Turkey

Turkish security forces were the perpetrators of an incident of child abuse, it has been revealed.

The investigation of a rape case in the Gercüş (Kercews) district of Batman (Elih) revealed that 27 males, including a specialised sergeant, police and village guards, raped a fifteen-year-old child and forced two women into prostitution.

When the fifteen-year-old visited hospital after complaining of a stomach ache, it was discovered that she was pregnant. The perpetrators were members of the police and army.

M.A. and V.A., two male suspect from the same village, were arrested. Later, the investigation was expanded. It was reported that 27 names related to the case were on the investigation file and the names of another 11were added to the file.

The majority of the perpetrators were members of the Turkish police, army and village guards.

During the investigation, it was also revealed that the perpetrators forced two women into prostitution.

According to Mesopotamia Agency’s report, different police officials and specialised sergeants took the child from the textile mill where she was working and two women several times over a period of eight months. The situation caused problems in the neighbourhood and harsh arguments had taken place between the owner of textile mill and the residents of the neighbourhood.

It was also claimed that the crimes were assisted by a suspect who was running a cafe in the district.
