Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Pervin Buldan and other HDP deputies met with women journalists in the Istanbul Hill Hotel to discuss Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention.
During talks about what should be done to stop the annulment of the treaty, Pervin Buldan stated that withdrawal from the convention is an attack on women’s progress.
“This is not the first attack, we have been saying this for years. Actually they prepared the way to attack the Istanbul Convention by attacking other gains by women in the past,” she said Buldan.
Buldan also stressed that the state does not want women to be strong in Turkey.
“They see women as enemies. This government is fighting against all women in this country and they want to end the organised women’s movement. All of the gains of women are under threat now and we should stop them,” concluded Buldan.
