Medya News will host an X-Space discussion on Thursday, 30 January, at 8pm CET, to raise awareness about the upcoming Permanent People’s Tribunal (PPT) on Rojava, a significant initiative set to take place on 5-6 February in Brussels.

– Jan Fermon: A lawyer at the Bar of Brussels, Belgium, specialized in criminal law, international humanitarian law and human rights law. Known for his defence of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Belgian Supreme Court, which ruled that the PKK is a legitimate non-state party to an armed conflict rather than a terrorist organisation.
– Rengin Ergül: A lawyer and a member of MAF-DAD, the Association for Democracy and International Law and part of the legal team representing Abdullah Öcalan.
– Ceren Uysal: Co-Secretary General of the European Association of Lawyers for Democracy & World Human Rights, now based in Vienna.
– Socrates Tziazas: Representative of the Cyprus Democratic Lawyers Association.
The importance of the Rojava Tribunal is to promote accountability and justice by clarifying the role of international law in addressing war crimes. The tribunal aims to shed light on Turkey’s alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in North and East Syria since 2018. It seeks to amplify the voices of victims, document evidence to ensure accountability, and pave the way for a peaceful political resolution to the Kurdish question.
