Bombings on civilian infrastructure by the Turkish state are very frequent in northeast Syria. Just a few days ago, a power station and a sugar factory were destroyed. And earlier in 2024 and in 2023, the Turkish state made severely bombed civilian infrastructure in northeast Syria.
A report from 2024 highlights that Turkey has killed 111 civilians in northeast Syria since 2022.

Northeastern Syria is inhabited by many different ethnic groups, including Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs and Turkmens. Although the area is within Syrian territory, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) administers the area and is developing a model of self-government. All ethnic and religious groups are involved in the administration, which guarantees their autonomy. Although the AANES has proved capable of guaranteeing representation and stability in the region, the Turkish state’s bombardments are aimed at weakening the political, economic and organisational structure in the region. The continuous attacks on the civilian infrastructure, apart from being a crime against humanity, have been presented as a form of special warfare against the people and the administrative structure of the region.
