Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria (AANES) Foreign Relations Department co-chair Ilham Ahmed spoke on the telephone on Friday.
The daily Israel Hayom, which was the first to release details of the call, reported that Ahmed spoke about arbitrary arrests and executions of Kurdish people by the new Syrian government.
By Saturday, the Kurdish Ronahi TV station was able to broadcast more information about the meeting. They reported that Israel had taken a positive approach to the assurance of the rights of the Kurds and all other ethnic and religious groups in Syria. The talks focused on the latest developments in the region and the protection of Syria’s sovereignty, in particular concerning attacks led by the Turkish state in the north of the country.
Both sides stressed the importance of establishing a permanent ceasefire on all Syrian territory.
Ronahi TV reported that the rights and protection of ethnic groups in Syria were discussed during the call and that Israel had taken a positive stance towards ensuring the rights of the Kurds and all other ethnic and religious groups in Syria, as well as advocating an end to the war.
