Ilham Ahmed, a top Kurdish politician, warned that the Israel-Hamas-Hezbollah conflict could have wider regional fallout. Speaking to ANHA, she called for peace based on the democratic confederalism model of North and East Syria, adding that Israeli strikes on Syrian sites tied to Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran are likely.
“This war will not remain confined to Gaza and southern Lebanon. It has already reached Yemen, Iran and Iraq, and will continue to spread,” Ahmed said. She urged immediate dialogue, stressing that the Autonomous Administration is vital in navigating this crisis and shaping a democratic future for Syria. “Protecting the Autonomous Administration will guarantee a new Syria,” she said. “We will always negotiate and strive to reach agreements with all parties.”
Furthermore, the impact of the regional conflict on war-torn Syria, already grappling with an economic crisis and a wave of displaced persons, is intensifying. Protecting the AANES is essential to the security of Syria as a whole, Ahmed emphasised. “Syria must see itself as entering a new phase,” Ahmed said, stressing the need for reconciliation to prevent the country from falling deeper into chaos.
Highlighting the broader geopolitical dynamics at play, Ahmed noted the increasing involvement of global powers such as the United States, Russia and China in the region. “America’s public alignment with Israel is driving much of the turmoil we are witnessing,” she observed.
“Our discussions are focussed on making the Autonomous Administration a model for the entire geography of Syria. These negotiations are necessary to ensure stability in North and East Syria,” she concluded.
