Kurdish artists have launched “Egrîce,” a new music video celebrating women’s strength and independence, inspired by the philosophy “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom).
Directed by Pêşawa Ramazan and produced by the Merziye Organisation, “Egrîce” features performances by Kurdish singers Esrin Seferî, Jîwer Hüseyin and Julya Hüseyin, with lyrics by Seher Muezî and choreography by Firyad Hasan. Speaking about the project, Jîwer Hüseyin said, “I was initially unsure about joining such a significant project, but I decided to take part for the women of Kurdistan with great belief and joy.”
The video draws on the philosophy “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî,” which celebrates women’s role in creating and nurturing life. “Every woman brings new life into the world,” Hüseyin said, expressing hope that “Egrîce” would inspire others through its artistic expression.
Discussing the challenges faced during production, Hüseyin noted that the project involved “a lot of hard work due to its focus on women and cultural heritage”, noting: “We worked intensively for two months before recording began, and I felt deeply moved by the choreography and cultural elements. Throughout the process, I felt a strong connection to all women.”
She added, “I hope this video brings a new understanding of what it means to be a woman and deepens the meaning of ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî‘.”
