The 12th Hamburg Kurdish film festival opens on 28 October with director Shawkat Amin Korki’s film “The Exam”, about corruption in Kurdistan.
The festival will feature nearly 40 films shot by Kurdish directors living in exile, mainly from the four parts of Kurdistan.
This year, the Hamburg Kurdish Film Festival is dedicated to filmmaker Rahim Zahibi from Rojhilat (Iranian Kurdistan), who died in suspicious circumstances in 2018. The festival will open on Thursday 28 October at Zeise Cinema with a concert by opera singer Pervin Chakar and duduk (a soulful double-reeded wind instrument) player Ertan Tekin.
Among the films that the audience will meet at the festival are Ferit Karahan’s “Brother’s Keeper”, Serhat Karaaslan’s “Passed by Censor” and Rahim Zahibi’s “Holy Bread”, which won the best film award for Panorama at Berlinale 2021. This year festival especially focuses on Iranian Kurdistan films. Various other events will also be offered at the festival, which ends on 3 November.
