The Women’s Defence Units’ (YPJ’s) General Commander Arzî Hesen spoke to Medya Haber TV regarding the debate over national unity and emphasized that they are against a civil war between Kurds.
Arzî Hesen, the Women’s Defence Units (YPJ) General Commander, spoke to Medya Haber about the issue of national unity among Kurds and the stance of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) regarding the ongoing clashes between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) in Iraqi Kurdistan.
“Every time, there are some obstacles that stand in the way of Kurdish unity. One of the parties can put its politics, goals and benefits before the aims of the entire Kurdish people,” she said, adding: “This has always caused an obstacle regarding the unity of the Kurdish people. Unity efforts have therefore failed. For this reason, all tribal, family structures and parties should give up their subjective interests and act in alliance to create the unity of the Kurdish people.”
The YPJ Commander emphasized that the YPJ is against a civil war between Kurds. Regarding “the war between the Kurds, which the Kurds call ‘birakûjî,'” she noted that “we have experienced the pain and suffering caused by this situation for years. This situation did not create a single gain for the Kurds. Only Kurdish children lost their lives. They killed each other and this served the enemies of the Kurdish people.”
She criticized the KDP for being allies with Turkey: “As YPJ forces, all YPJ members, as the Women’s Defence Forces, we are ready to fulfil our role in ensuring the unity of the Kurdish people and to fulfil all that is asked of us. We will do our part to make the dreams of our people come true,” she said.
