A new song by two young Kurdish musicians, dedicated to the solidarity of women who fight for equality and freedom, has been released to streaming platforms on Friday, days before the Women’s Day on the 8th of March.
‘Xuçê’ (‘My Sister’ in Kurdish) was composed by Rewşan and the lyrics belong to Tara Mamedova. The two women, who sing the song together, said:
“Women’s solidarity stems from sisterhood. This invisible bond between us goes many centuries back, when we were the wise ones, the artists and the curing witches. This sisterhood that connects us weakened with time, but never broke, because we, as women, are still the same witches that sing, dance, and accept each other with love. We are trying to strengthen the bonds with love. We are doing this for a better world for all. Because we belong to each other.’”
The song was produced by Hakan Gürbüz, who worked on several other projects with Rewşan before.
Cover art of the song was made by Hülya Özdemir, and the official video clip was directed by Melodi Tözüm.
