Three fighters from Sinjar Resistance Units (YBŞ), a Yazidi militia in Sinjar (Shengal) formed to protect Yazidis in Iraq from the attacks of Sunni Islamist insurgents, lost their lives in a Turkish drone attack at approximately 13:50 local time on Sunday.
In the statement released after what they described as a “vicious attack” near Sinjar, the YBŞ condemned the motive behind Turkey’s actions, asserting that the goal of these assaults was to disrupt the security and peace in Sinjar and hinder the return of displaced residents to the region.
The YBŞ declared their determination to continue their struggle and uphold their legitimate rights, stating, “Those who believe that we will retreat in the face of these attacks should know that we will persist in walking the path of our martyrs. We will not relent in our fight until we achieve victory in this cause.”
The YBŞ previously played a significant role in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).
