The Diyarbakır (Amed) Labour and Democracy Platform released a statement on 21 February, to mark International Mother Language Day.
The statement was read in both the Kurmancî and Kirmancîkî dialects of Kurdish. Mustafa Yaşa from the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) pointed out the importance of the mother language and stated that their demands have so far been ignored.
“Demands to educate in the mother language are opposed by nationalists. Opposing the mother language is opposing science”, he said.
