The Turkish state has increased its attacks on Ain İssa (Eyn İsa) since 18 December, when it took over Tel Abyad (Grê Sipî) and Ras-al-Ayn (Serêkaniye).
Ain Issa is a civilian settlement and residents of the area have been subjected to intense bombardments carried out by Turkey. Women living in the Amûde district of the Qamişlo canton condemned Turkey’s attacks and claimed that Turkey was repeating the history of the Ottoman Empire.
Organising against the attacks
According to a recent ANHA report, one of those women is Nesrîn Peşo. Referring to Turkey’s plans in the region, Peşo said, “We all know that the Turkish state’s aim is to take over North East Syria (Rojava), remove the idea of the democratic nation and destroy women’s organisations in the region.
“Although Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan increases the attacks in an effort to occupy the region, we, the Kurdish people, along with everyone living in North East Syria and women’s organisations, will continue to strengthen our resistance against him”.
‘We do not accept any negotiations in the region’
Condemning Turkey’s attacks and expressing her support for those who protected civilians in the region, another resident Reda Hesen said, “Ain Issa province was rescued at the cost of the blood of our children. We do not approve of it being handed over to Erdoğan or the Damascus government. We also do not accept any probable negotiations regarding Ain Issa”.
Saliha Mistefa, another local citizen, referred to the international culpability for the attacks. “The attacks against Ain Issa are being carried out according to the instructions of international states now. We condemn those attacks. We repeat that we support the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that protect us against invaders and we vow to never leave our homes”.
