The 6th Women and Literature Festival took place on Monday at the Mihemed Şêxo Culture and Art Centre in Qamishli (Qamishlo) in North East Syria.
The Women and Literature Festival is one of the first literary events in northeastern Syria. Organised annually, the festival aims at the equal and fair representation of women and to strengthen the unity between communities living in the region.
The festival program includes discussions, drama performances and concerts.
Women from different communities participate in the two-day festival.
Students of the Department of Literature of the Rojava University also participate in the festival whilst the Autonomous Administration representatives and politicians join the events in the festival program.
“Violence against women increases all over the world. The aim of this festival is to widen the struggle of women and develop them in every field,” said Efaf Heskî, one of the directors of the Hasakah (Hesekê) Culture and Art Committee. “We reflect the creativity and productivity of women. On this occasion, I call on all women to join the 8 March events.”
