Reports of several incidents of irregularities and violations continue to emerge in Turkey’s second round of presidential elections on Sunday.
In the village of Aşağıfıratlı in Batman’s (Êlih) Kozluk (Hezo) district, the village headman visited polling stations wearing a Justice and Development Party (AKP) badge. In response to objections, the headman was removed from the premises. At Türk Telekom Anatolian High School in Batman city centre, unsigned minutes were discovered and promptly destroyed after raising criticism. Furthermore, at the same school, a voter cast a ballot in ballot box 1314 without presenting an ID card, leading to a confrontation between AKP members and observers who objected to this incident.
MHP mayor engaged in double voting
National Movement Party (MHP) Dilovası District (Kocaeli province) Deputy Chairman Yücetan Dilmaç voted for a second time in ballot box number 1012, after already casting a vote in Can Gülmen Primary School, where he was registered. Dilmaç’s attempt to vote twice was prevented by the officials present at the ballot box. It has been reported that a criminal complaint has been filed against Dilmaç, who allegedly claimed, “I was unaware that this was a crime.”
Violations persist in Istanbul
It has been reported that a group of nationalist individuals is attempting to instigate provocations in the school grounds of Bostancı and Suadiye neighbourhoods in Kadıköy district, Istanbul.
“There is a group of nationalists wandering around the schools in Bostancı and Suadiye. We will not succumb to provocation and will protect the integrity of the ballot boxes with utmost care,” the Kadıköy district organisation of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) posted on their Twitter account.
Violence against lawyers and voters
Individuals associated with the AKP attacked people who were monitoring the ballot boxes at Mücella Selcanoğlu High School in Bostancı neighbourhood. At İstoç Primary School in Bağcılar district, lawyers were prevented from entering classrooms and were assaulted by a group of people.
At ballot box 2033 located in Mahmut Kemal İnal Imam Hatip School in Kartal district of Istanbul, it was discovered that all the minutes were signed without noting any irregularities. A report regarding these irregularities will be filed.
Deceased citizen on voter list
It has been revealed that a person named Emine Kahraman, who passed away in 2015, was listed as a voter in ballot box number 1115 at Yayla Primary School in Bahçelievler district of Istanbul. Emine Kahraman was not included in the voter list for the presidential and parliamentary elections held on 14 May. The inclusion of her name in the second round of elections has been reported, and the ballot box officials have filed a report regarding this matter.
AKP members disregard ban
It has been reported that in numerous schools in Istanbul’s Pendik district, AKP ballot box officials exerted pressure on voters to select Recep Tayyip Erdoğan by showing them the ballot paper, despite it being prohibited. Ballot box attendants from the Green Left Party have filed a report concerning this issue.
Turkey’s second round of presidential elections is underway with reports of several voting violations on Sunday, with instances of open voting pressure in Siirt (Sêrt), mass voting incidents in Muş (Mûş), votes being cast in Bingöl (Çewlîg) on behalf of individuals residing in Europe, and threats to polling officials in Adana from members of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
In Tosuntarla (Kundîş) village of the Pervari (Berwarî) district in Siirt province, observers from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Green Left Party were threatened and denied entry to the school. Despite 63 out of 83 votes in the 14 May elections going to the Green Left Party, soldiers and village guards coerced voters into casting their ballots openly. In Ekindüzü (Hertevîn) village of the same district, an attempt was made for mass voting, but strong objections from the observers led to a retreat.
In Sungu, Muş, it was uncovered that AKP polling station officials removed observers from the CHP and Green Left Party, enabling numerous people to engage in mass voting.
At İbrahim Atalı Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Kurttepe neighbourhood of Çukurova, Adana, it was observed that the documents provided to building supervisors and ballot committee members lacked the stamp of the electoral board and had dry signatures, resulting in a formal complaint.
A dispute arose between AKP supporters who voted openly and polling station officials at Doğankent Primary School in Yüreğir. AKP supporters threatened the officials by saying, “We are at the polls, cancel the vote if you dare”. Open voting was recorded.
In Çavuşlar, Bingöl, soldiers allegedly refused to intervene in voting irregularities when a CHP observer objected to voters casting ballots on behalf of individuals residing in Europe. It was discovered that one voter had cast multiple votes in ballot box number 1282 at New Settlement Primary School. The CHP observer was asked to leave by AKP supporters when attempting to address the situation. The incident was reported to the gendarmerie, but soldiers stated that they couldn’t intervene, citing it as an AKP-controlled area. Concerned for their safety, the observer was escorted to a nearby petrol station by the gendarmerie.
