Turkish soldiers opened fire on a vehicle containing 84 refugees from Afghanistan and Pakistan, near the town of Begendik in the Pervari district of Siirt, claiming that it did not comply with the “stop” warning, MA reports.
In the incident that took place around 01:30am in the morning, 2 refugees lost their lives and 12 people were injured. The injured refugees were taken to Siirt Training and Research Hospital by a fleet of ambulances. The driver R.E. was detained while other refugees reportedly fled the scene.
Siirt Governor’s Office claimed that a road safety control patrol checkpoint was carried out on the Begendik Bridge by the Pervari-Begendik Gendarmerie Station Command and the truck approaching the checkpoint at around 01:27 did not comply with the “stop” warning and the soldiers responded when it was claimed someone fired at them from inside the vehicle.
