Turkish prosecutors in the southern province of Hatay have launched an investigation into three gendarmes for murder, Bianet reported on Saturday.
Two people died in custody after eight Syrians were arrested by Turkish gendarmes for illegal entry and taken to a border police station on 11 March, according to reports received.
The prosecutors released two lieutenants and one first lieutenant on bail after taking their statements, and imposed a confidentiality order on the case, reported Bianet.
The six other Syrians, who lodged a legal complaint against the three gendarmes, said in their statements that they had been severely tortured during their stay in the police station, including being forced to drink diesel oil, according to the news site.
All six have been returned to Syria, and two of them are currently in an intensive care unit there, Bianet said.
