The Turkish Ministry of National Defence announced that six soldiers were killed during the ongoing military operations of Turkish forces against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrillas in Iraqi Kurdistan.
In its first statement on Wednesday, the Defence Ministry announced that two soldiers were killed and three wounded in the ground incursion named Operation Claw-Lock. In its last statement at night, the ministry announced that the number of soldiers who lost their lives was five.
On Thursday morning, the ministry issued a new statement saying that another soldier had been killed due to “harassing fire” by the PKK’s armed wing, the People’s Defence Forces (HPG).
Turkey’s military actions against Kurdish guerrilla forces in the Zap, Metina (Metîna) and Avashin (Avaşîn) areas in Kurdistan Region of Iraq have been ongoing since April 2022.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) was recently accused of participating alongside Turkish forces in the operation. “Turkey’s ‘enter, stay, cleanse’ strategy has collapsed, and now the KDP is laying ambushes,” said journalist Aziz Köylüoğlu last week.
