The Turkish military conducted a series of intense airstrikes late on Thursday targeting several Kurdish regions in northern Iraq, according to reports from Rojnews correspondents.
The areas targeted included Qandil (Qendîl), a mountainous refuge for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on the Iraq-Iran border, Sharbazher (Şarbajêr) and Raparin (Raperîn) regions in Sulaymaniyah and the Balekayetî district on Mount Helgurd of Erbil (Hewlêr). A village in the Sharbazher district reportedly bore the brunt of the attacks, enduring at least 10 separate airstrikes.
Turkish fighter jets carried out coordinated and heavy bombardments in Qandil.
Simultaneously, the rural settings in the Raparin region was also subjected to airstrikes, resulting in shattered windows in several homes. Qandil villages found themselves under fire during the same onslaught.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Turkish warplanes executed low-level flights during the bombings, creating a state of panic among the local population.
