The family of Ahmed Khaled Mamo, the Kurdish boy killed in Afrin (Efrîn) by a Turkish-backed settler on Wednesday, was forced to bury him swiftly on Thursday amid escalating tensions in the Jindires district, as reported by ANHA.
Eyewitness accounts disclosed to ANHA that the burial took place under significant duress from Turkish-backed mercenaries, aiming to curtail the widespread protests ignited by the boy’s death. The ceremony occurred in the district cemetery.
The killing of the 15-year-old by Yamen Ahmed Al-Ibrahim, a settler brought in by Turkey from the Idlib countryside, has sparked outrage and led to demonstrations against the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries. The incident has highlighted ongoing violations and the struggle of Afrin’s residents, many of whom were displaced during the 2018 Turkish invasion. In response, the boy’s family and community members have rallied for justice, calling for demonstrations to condemn the Turkish state’s actions in the region.
