On Friday evening, a Turkish drone targeted a village in the Qamishlo (Qamişlo) countryside in northeast Syria, killing four fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The SDF Media Centre confirmed the incident, referring to the Turkish state as an “occupying force”. The Centre also announced plans to release further details about the attack in a subsequent statement.
This incident follows a similar drone attack that took place just 48 hours earlier, in which a Turkish drone targeted two vehicles between the villages of Tel Maaruf and Khazna in the southern countryside of Qamishli. This attack resulted in three fatalities and two injuries, as reported by the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish).
According to John Ahmad from North Press, Turkey launched 34 drone strikes on northern Syria in the first half of 2023 alone, resulting in 73 casualties, including 44 fatalities and 29 injuries. Civilian victims accounted for 27 percent of the total victim toll.
