The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that one of their fighters was killed and two were injured in a Turkish drone attack on a vehicle in Syria’s Kurdish-majority northern town Kobani (Kobanê) on Wednesday evening.
The statement of the SDF says that the Turkish drone targeted “a car carrying fighters from our SDF forces while they were on leave, in the Bogaz village, south of Kobani”.
Since 5 October, the Turkish state has intensified its attacks against the Autonomous Administration in North East Syria (AANES), destroying most of the civilian infrastructure in the region and leaving almost 2 million people without access to electricity and drinking water and killing dozens of civilians.
In the AANES, civilians and members of the SDF are repeatedly being targeted by Turkish drone attacks in violation of international law. The attacks, aimed at representatives of the autonomous administration, members of combat units as well as the civilian population, are carried out by drones that travel unchallenged in the airspace of Syria controlled by the US and Russia.
