A Turkish drone crashed on Monday in a village located in Suleymaniyah province’s Sangasar district in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), according to Peregaf, an online news outlet with a focus on the region.
Local residents quickly gathered at the crash site, capturing and sharing videos of the wreckage displaying the Turkish flag, on various social media platforms. The cause of the crash remains unknown at the time of reporting.
This incident marks the third Turkish drone crash in the region over the last few weeks.
The ongoing military conflict between Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has seen Turkey carrying out aerial strikes against alleged PKK positions in the region. Over the years, Turkey has significantly increased the use of drones to target suspected PKK positions, particularly in urban centres of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
