Turkey’s pro-government daily Yeni Şafak on Tuesday accused Greece of faking the closure of a refugee camp, which, according to Ankara, shelters members of terrorist organisations from Turkey.
The Greek media on Saturday reported that due to a weak build structure the Lavrio refugee camp will be closed after refugees are transferred to other locations in the country.
The Turkish daily claimed that Greek authorities held secret meetings with members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in December last year and told them that they would act as if they were closing to camp in order to avoid pressure from Turkey.
In the same meeting, the Greek authorities and PKK representatives decided to move the camp some place close to the Greek capital of Athens, Yeni Şafak said.
As its is frequently seen in reports published in Turkey’s pro-government outlets, Yeni Şafak did not cite any sources or provide any evidence in its report about the Lavrio refugee camp.
According to Greek media, so far some 100 refugees out of 150 residing in the camp have been transferred to other facilities in Greece’s Attica region which encompassed Athens.
