The Pazarcık (Bazarcix) District Governorship of the southeastern province of Kahramanmaraş (Mereş), one of Turkey’s most affected provinces by the 6 February earthquakes, confiscated the earthquake relief materials provided by the Crisis Coordination Centre of the pro-Kurdish opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) together with local associations.
“Those who were not there since the beginning of the earthquake, especially in the first days, and did not provide aid to the people in any way, are now trying to prevent those who deliver support to earthquake victims,” said HDP Co-Chair Pervin Buldan, adding that they will continue to deliver aid to the people in the region at any cost.
District Governor Mustafa Hamit Kıyıcı came to the centre of Pazarcık’s Hasankoca village with several soldiers on Wednesday evening and stated that the earthquake relief operations would be carried out by the coordinators appointed by the Governorship.
Party members and volunteers protested the governor’s imposition.
