The problems in the Middle East cannot be solved without solving the Palestinian and Kurdish issues, which are the two main issues in the region, said Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Green Left Party on Sunday in a statement expressing their deep concern over the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants.
The party strongly condemned the recent escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine, which has seen the most intense fighting in years. They decried the targeting of civilians, the abuse of dead bodies and hostages, and the destruction of civilian living spaces. The party called on both sides to immediately halt the cycle of violence and pursue a peaceful resolution.
The statement emphasised that the targeting of civilians only deepens the enmity between the two nations and declared the Green Left Party’s unwavering stance against all attacks on civilians, regardless of the parties involved. They stressed that there is no justification for the brutality that often targets women’s bodies in wars.
The Green Left Party expressed their rejection of Israel’s occupation of Palestine and reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom. They called on regional and international powers to make concerted efforts to bring both sides to a just and democratic solution to the long-standing conflict.
The party also highlighted the interconnected nature of the Kurdish and Palestinian issues, stating, “We have painfully experienced for years that the problems of the Middle East will not be solved without solutions being found to the Palestinian and Kurdish issues, the most basic issues of the Middle East”.
They criticised nation-state-based approaches and religious divisions in the region, asserting that such factors only serve to deepen problems and increase hostilities among peoples. The party called instead for a democratic and peaceful solution that would promote coexistence among the diverse peoples of the Middle East.
