It is now known that 50,096 people died and 107,204 others were injured in Turkey in the 6 February earthquakes that hit the country’s southern provinces, the head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced on Monday.
Around three million people moved to other parts of Turkey following the disaster that caused massive destruction in 10 provinces that were home to 13.5 million people.
According to Yunus Sezer, the head of AFAD, the Turkish authorities have identified 1,325 people suspected of causing deaths by failing to comply with building rules.
Meanwhile, the European Union is holding an international conference on Monday to raise funds for disaster relief and reconstruction efforts for the earthquake-affected areas in Turkey and Syria.
The 6 February twin tremors have claimed the lives of over 6,000 people in Syria.
