The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council has issued a strong statement calling for urgent self-defence and solidarity to counter escalating attacks across North & East Syria. According to the statement, Turkish-backed factions, including extremist groups, have launched offensives against Aleppo, Shahba (Şehba), and other regions, intensifying the threat to Syria’s stability.
The KCK accuses Turkey of exploiting the ongoing geopolitical chaos in the Middle East to advance expansionist, colonialist and anti-Kurdish goals. “The Turkish state is pursuing genocidal and racist ambitions to eliminate the Kurdish people and democratic governance in Syria,” the statement said. It also criticised the Syrian government for its failure to defend territories and its people, leaving communities vulnerable to massacres and displacements.
The attacks on Shahba and other areas are framed as part of a broader global plan to destabilise Syria and deepen ethnic and sectarian divisions. “These offensives aim to pit peoples against each other and prevent solutions to Syria’s long-standing issues,” the KCK said. The group warned that Turkish interventions in Syria and the Middle East will lead to dangerous consequences, not only for the Kurds but for all communities in the region.
The KCK stressed its long-standing vision of a democratic and inclusive Syria where all peoples coexist equally and freely. “A democratic Syria is the only path to solving its internal problems and contributing to the broader democratisation of the Middle East,” it asserted. However, the Turkish state’s “anti-Kurdish mentality” and efforts to dismantle the democratic autonomous administration in North & East Syria are seen as deliberate obstructions to these goals.
The statement called for widespread organisation and vigilance among the people, urging them to adopt a strategy of Revolutionary People’s War to counter occupation attempts. “Our people must not rely on external help but must integrate with local defence forces and act collectively,” the KCK declared. It stressed the importance of preparing for self-defence to protect lives, lands and the gains achieved by the autonomous administration.
They concluded with a stark warning about the extraordinary challenges facing Rojava and Syria. “This is a critical moment in history. To prevent massacres and occupation, our people must mobilise, organise and resist. Only through revolutionary self-defence can these threats be countered,” it said.
The statement highlights the urgent need for international awareness and action to address the escalating violence and its dire implications for Syria’s future.
