Turkey has reportedly launched military operations during the night of 9 February on the northeast of Dohuk in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region to surround the Garê mountain.
War planes reportedly belonging to Turkey have hit the Garê mountains by air strikes.
Yekmal, Prize and Şiye regions of Akrê, a district in the Duhok Governorate.
It is also reported that Turkish soldiers have landed in the region with Turkish military helicopters flying above the regions of operation.
Following the air strikes hitting several villages, including the Gundê Guzê, Meyrokê, Siyanê and Yekmalê villages, clashes are reported to be intensified between the Turkish military forces and the People’s Defence Forces, the military wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Local sources report that the military mobilisation is still ongoing in the region.
Following his visit in Iraq on 18 January with a delegation of military members, Turkey’s top defense officer Hulusi Akar issued a statement, signalling new military campaigns targeting the territories of Iraq whilst referring to “fighting against terrorism”.
