A Turkish court has sentenced journalist Merdan Yanardağ, who was arrested on 27 June after criticising the government’s prolonged incommunicado detention of imprisoned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan, to 2 years and 6 months in prison. Following the verdict, the court ordered that Yanardağ, who had already been behind bars for 101 days, be released.
